The Write {Cleaning} Stuff

Welcome to Day #3 of the Going Green Blog Tour! I hope you have been inspired by all the creative projects along the tour. I know I have been! Please feel free to leave a comment letting me know how you are “Going Green” and stamping/crafting in your own life! I also invite you to subscribe to my blog updates (see “Subscribe to Updates” in the right column of this blog) and come visit again soon!

Today’s project involves something other than recycling: Going Green with your Cleaning!

Stampin' Up! Digital Cleaning LabelsFor the past year I have been experimenting with making my own green cleaning products. I have one child with allergies and asthma and another child who is my own personal shadow. Both make me very hesitant to reach for many of the commercial chemical-laden, high-fume cleaning products available at the store.

I researched many different cleaning recipes online and in books. And after trial and error, I have several recipes that I am very happy with… a few that I’m still tweaking… and a couple that I just gave up on. (Homemade dishwasher detergent was a major bust.)

Now that I have my own cleaning products, I needed to label each container. And just a plain ol’ Sharpie wasn’t going to cut it! So I created labels and recipe cards from the My Digital Studio downloads: The Write Stuff II. This digital kit comes with eight patterns of Designer Series paper and thirty-six individual “die-cut” images so you’ll have just what you need for journals, ledgers, frames, recipes, or whatever else you can think of… like cleaning supplies!

I created my labels in my photo-editing program (I use Photoshop and/or Photoshop Elements.) and printed them out on glossy paper. With my handy dandy Paper Snips, I cut each label out. And then I adhered them to my containers with clear packing/mailing tape. (I wanted the entire label to be covered with the tape. That way, if/when I spilled cleaner on it, the label would be protected.)

Here are photos of my bottles and containers… labeled pretty! It almost makes me want to clean! Well, almost…

After I labeled my containers, I created recipe cards for my cleaning recipes. I put them in badge ID holders and tied them together with Stampin’ Up! Alpine Ribbon Originals (currently on sale in the Clearance Rack of my Stampin’ Up! website).
